British Army Fixture Announced

Posted: 25th August 2026

Bedford Blues are pleased to confirm that the 16th home fixture scheduled in the 2026/27 campaign, and included in this year’s Season Ticket package, will be against The British Army on Friday 12th March (KO 7:45pm).

Mike Rayer’s men will retain tradition with a mid-season fixture against the servicemen, acting as a perfect precursor to the final six weeks of Elior Champ Rugby for Bedford, as well as ideal preparation as the Army look to regain the Babcock Trophy in May.

The two teams have a long-established relationship due to their involvement with the historic Mobbs Memorial fixture, which took on a new guise in 2024 and now sees Blues face Northampton Saints in an annual fixture, next on Friday 27th November at Franklin’s Gardens.

Bedford Blues Chief Executive Officer, Gareth Alred said: “We are incredibly proud of our relationship with the Army Rugby Union, which has been going strong for well over a decade.

“Bedford has a strong military connection and history; we are indebted to our services and feel like this match gives our community an opportunity to support both their rugby club and their armed forces.

“The fixture schedule has worked out this season, allowing us to fulfil this match which serves perfectly for both team’s preparations as they enter their respective important stages of the season.”

Kimberley Fowke, Chief Operations Officer of the Army Rugby Union, said: "We are delighted to once again face Bedford Blues in what has become a valued fixture in the Army Rugby calendar.

"The longstanding relationship between Bedford Blues and the Army Rugby Union is built on mutual respect, shared values and a passion for the game, making this a fixture that players, staff and supporters always look forward to.

"As we look ahead to the 2027 Inter Service Championship, fixtures like this play an important role in bringing the squad together and providing valuable preparation against high-quality opposition. We are grateful to Bedford Blues for their continued support of Army Rugby and look forward to another excellent occasion at Goldington Road."
