REPORT | Blues Women top of the shop

Posted: 18th October 2026

Emma Graham reports as Bedford Blues Women rose to the top of the Championship Midlands Two table thanks to a 60-12 success over Lincoln Ladies at Goldington Road.

Bedford Blues Women delivered a fantastic team performance against Lincoln Ladies, securing a third win from three games in Champ Two and sending us top of the league!

The foundations were laid by a hardworking forward pack, with solid scrums providing a strong platform to build from. Outstanding work at the breakdown helped Blues retain possession and build momentum, giving the backs the space to move the ball and put their attacking threats to work.

It was a real team effort, with the forwards’ hard work and the backs’ finishing combining to produce an impressive attacking display. Across the pitch, the commitment and support for one another gave Blues plenty to celebrate.

Katharine Simpson, Claire Cranfield and Jodie Mallard all crossed twice, with Lauren Freeman, Elin Crabb and Alivia Usher-Harris also getting on the scoresheet. Lucy Middleton delivered with the boot, landing seven of her ten kicks, including a penalty.

A special mention to Lucy, whose accuracy with the boot not only added valuable points but provided us with further depth in open play as well.

There were special moments away from the scoring, too. Jack Hood made their home debut, while Emily Winstone (McB) celebrated her 50th cap, becoming only the third player to reach this milestone. A brilliant achievement and a proud day for McB and everyone at the club!

Credit must also go to Lincoln, who showed real resilience and kept pushing throughout. Their determination was rewarded with tries in the second half, as they asked difficult questions of Blues’ otherwise solid defensive wall and battled right to the final whistle.

Off the pitch, our cake sale was a huge hit, raising money for the Save Our Scrum (S.O.S) campaign and Keech Hospice, a charity close to our hearts.

Keech Hospice supported former player Esme’s mum, who sadly passed away in September, making today’s fundraising especially meaningful. It was lovely to have Esme pitchside with us, and a huge thank you goes to everyone who baked, bought cakes and supported both causes.

The hard work continues on Tuesday as we welcome Giselle Mather, former England international and 1994 World Cup winner, to lead training. A fantastic opportunity for the squad to learn from her wealth of experience as we build towards our next game against Sheffield Tigers (1st November).

Three games. Three wins. Top of the league. Come On You Blues!
