REPORT | Brilliant Blues Back to their Best

Posted: 11th October 2026

There’s just something about Ladies Day that ignites a spark in the Bedford Blues as they maintained their incredible record with a 38-14 success over Cornish Pirates.

After three tough results to start the season, this was about as good as it could get. A mixture of defensive solidity in the first half, followed by a free-flowing attacking masterclass in the second  created a much needed five pointer on home soil.

Blues matches Pirates blow for blow, including playing against the wind in the first half, to open up a 14-7 half time lead.

Nobody has performed better in pink over the years than Dean Adamson and the perennial try scorer was at it again to open the scoring with a lovely grubber and chase.

Pirates responded with a driving maul to level it up through a penalty try, Bedford losing Lucas Titherington to the sin bin.

If anything, that revitalised Bedford who scored a classic ‘offload city’ try from Michael Le Bourgeois to head back to the sheds.

The second half was like watching a group possessed, including a try for the ages within 60 seconds of the restart.

Pirates launched a ball skywards that looked pretty effective, but the little magician Louis James got going on his lazy run through three challenges to set Marcus Kershaw to the line.

The man of the hour to start the season, Lucas Titherington, wasn’t too far from making another try scoring impact - grabbing a double to make it six in four games.

Again, it was more offload city to delight the odyssey of pink in attendance.

A late consolation from Pirates did nothing to dampen what was another special day at Goldington Road.
