SUNDAY | History beckons as Blues Women return home
Goldington Road prepares to stage its first ever Women’s Championship Two fixture this coming Sunday as Bedford Blues Women host Birmingham Moseley Women (Gates Open 12pm; KO 2pm).
Big Game Preview
Sunday sees a battle of two sides promoted from NC1 last season, in what is just the second matchday of the season following the RFU community delayed start to the campaign.
The teams had contrasting fortunes on opening weekend, as Eddie Rennell’s side battled to a 21-20 victory in Sheffield, while Birmingham suffered defeat against Lincoln.
As is the case for all fixtures in the first half of the season, this is the first meeting between the respective women’s sides of Bedford and Birmingham, although there is a long, historic rivalry evidenced between the men’s teams.
Team News
Following a short break between fixtures, Eddie Rennell should be able to call upon pretty much a full squad this weekend with several players expected to be back available from injury and unavailability absence.
That should see several new faces run out at Goldington Road for the very first time. Full team news will follow on Friday morning.
What follows Sunday’s clash?
It’s back-to-back home fixtures coming up for Bedford Blues Women as they also play host to Lincoln Ladies on Sunday 18th October. There are then three other home fixtures before 2026 is out, on 8th and 29th November, then a Saturday fixture on 19th December to conclude the calendar year.
In addition, there are three away trips and some long journeys coming up in 2026 – taking in Sheffield Tigers, Sutton Coldfield and Bridgnorth.
