Mobbs Memorial Match Focus
The prestigious Mobbs Memorial Match returns to Goldington Road for the first time since 2019 this Thursday as Bedford Blues kickstart Easter Bank Holiday by hosting The British Army (KO 7:45pm).
Gates open from 5pm with Mobbs’ former school, Bedford Modern 1st XV taking on an OBM XV (KO 5:30pm) to mark the occasion.
Tickets for the double header can be purchased online here. Please Note: This fixture is not included within the season ticket package and individual match tickets, priced from just £10 for adults and kids for a quid, must be purchased to obtain entry.
Big Game Preview
Some of the most illustrious names in the history of English rugby have played in the Mobbs Memorial Match since its inception in 1921; donning the jerseys of the East Midlands, Barbarians, Bedford Blues, Northampton Saints or The British Army.
Blues are set to blend a mixture of youth and experience as Mike Rayer puts out a side including Bedford players, Saints Academy and triallists against an Army side in preparation for their showpiece event; The Babcock Trophy against the Navy at Twickenham in May.
Food, Drink and Entertainment
Things may look and feel slightly different to a traditional home Championship matchday, but we’ve packed out more than ever before to keep everyone entertained once through the turnstiles.
Highlights include the Biggleswade Sea Cadet Band (who will also march to the ground from the Wreath Laying Ceremony at the War Memorial on the Embankment from 16:30), a feast of military attractions, Royal British Legion support, Royal Anglian Regiment recruitment stand, military vehicle displays as well as the two games on the pitch.
There are plenty of places to get a drink with four public bars open all evening; namely the CMC Marquee – which will also house the Ella-Mobbs Cup – Scrum Bar, Burrow Chalet Bar and Dunster House Cabin Bar in the mini fan village.
The Dovecote Park Suite and The Eagle Bar will be closed all day. The Former Players Bar will be open from 7:30pm following a private event.
Three hot food stands will be available; located next to the main entrance, near the halfway line and Taylor’s Kitchen from the Scrum Bar serving hatch.
Post match join Sam Roberts in the CMC Marquee for the Man of the Match presentation and live musical entertainment into the late evening.
Blues Foundation Activation
Thursday’s Guard of Honour, sponsored by Bellway Homes, will be from Olney RFC; Mobbs’ first rugby club growing up. Make sure to give them a cheer as they step out onto the pitch to form the pre-match tunnel.
