MATCH FOCUS | Premiership leaders arrive Saturday

Posted: 19th November 2024

Bedford Blues will look to spring an upset on top-flight opposition as group leaders Bath head to Goldington Road for the first time in 25 years this Saturday (Gates 12pm; KO 3pm).

Ticket discounts can be found online in advance of matchday; click here to secure your spot.

Big Game Preview

Both sides will be hoping to conclude this first batch of Premiership Rugby Cup fixtures on a strong footing with places in the top two of Pool D still up for grabs.

Mike Rayer’s side will have to be on their mettle to match the free scoring European heavyweights, who have scored 70+ points in both prior cup games. A loud and vociferous home support could make all the difference as Bedford try to maintain their early season unbeaten home form.

The game plays host to an historic 50th meeting between the sides, 90 years since the first.

Food, Drink and Entertainment

Another large attendance is anticipated to pack into GR, so head to the ground early where possible to avoid the queues and secure the best views of the action. Grab a programme from the gates and visit one of eight public bars, with more service provision installed in all corners.

Venues such as the Rebel Bar, Scrum Bar and Former Players Bar offer a quieter location to soak up the pre-match atmosphere and take in live Premier League football action of Leicester City v Chelsea (12:30pm).

The newly repurposed Blues Horsebox Bar will be located adjacent to the marquee entrance. Swiftpour, bottom-up service, will be available in two locations serving Poretti only; next to The Burrow Chalet Bar and inside the Mini Fan Village. This is another popular area to visit; also hosting No.7 Coffee House Mobile Truck, Dunster House Bar and Burger & Sausage Hut.

There are three other food outlets available; a catering unit by the main gates, Taylor’s Kitchen at the Scrum Hall serving hatch and Chicken George from The Burrow outside hatch from KO.

After the match, head to The Rebel Bar for the continuation of ‘Final Whistle’ featuring the Man of the Match interview with our matchday announcer, Sam Roberts or straight into the marquee with live music from Goats in Trees. Led by a long-standing Blues supporter, this will be the band’s first performance at GR!

Live Coverage of Wales v South Africa in the Autumn Nations will also be available (5:40pm) in all other areas.

Blues Foundation Activation

Saturday’s Guard of Honour, sponsored by Bellway Homes, will be formed of Biddenham Upper School pupils. Give them a cheer as they step out onto the pitch to form the pre-match tunnel.

Following the recent changes to our Eco Cup returns policy, full details found here, please consider returning yours to the bars at the end of the game to support our charitable arm.

And please remember to support our pitchside team and allow a swift flow of the action on the hallowed turf by returning match balls kicked outside the playing area as soon as possible.
